PSHE at Bewick Bridge

At Bewick Bridge Community Primary School, we are committed to developing pupils who are confident, respectful, resilient and responsible members of society. Through our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) and Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum, we aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to lead healthy, safe and fulfilling lives, both now and in the future.

Our curriculum is built upon the statutory Relationships Education, Health Education and National Curriculum Science requirements and is delivered through the Kapow Primary scheme of work. This provides a carefully sequenced and progressive curriculum that ensures consistency across the school, supports teachers in delivering sensitive topics with confidence and enables all pupils to access high-quality learning.

We aim to help pupils understand themselves and others, develop positive relationships and make informed decisions that promote their physical health, mental wellbeing and personal safety. Children are encouraged to develop empathy, integrity and self-awareness, enabling them to value diversity, respect different perspectives and contribute positively to their communities.

Our curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to develop emotional literacy, resilience and the confidence to manage change and life's challenges. Through meaningful discussion and reflection, pupils learn about their rights and responsibilities, understand how to keep themselves and others safe, including online, and develop the knowledge and confidence to seek help when needed.

Ultimately, we aim to prepare every child for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life, enabling them to leave Bewick Bridge as kind, thoughtful, informed and responsible citizens who are ready to flourish in modern Britain and beyond.
