Buddies
Buddies program
At our school, we believe in fostering meaningful relationships between our older and younger pupils through our Buddies Program. This initiative pairs our Year 6 children with Reception pupils, creating opportunities for mentorship, friendship, and shared learning experiences throughout the school year.
Intent
The Buddies Program aims to:
Build strong, supportive relationships between older and younger pupils.
Develop confidence and leadership skills in Year 6 students.
Provide Reception pupils with a caring mentor to support their transition into school life.
Foster a sense of community, empathy, and social development across year groups.
Encourage teamwork, communication, and responsibility in a nurturing environment.
Implementation
The Buddies Program is structured to provide children with meaningful interactions through half-termly activities designed to strengthen relationships between Year 6 and Reception pupils. These activities encourage teamwork, communication, and support, allowing older pupils to develop leadership skills while younger pupils gain confidence in their new school environment. See below the activities the children will be taking part in this year:

Impact
Through the Buddies Program, Reception pupils gain increased confidence as they form bonds with their older mentors. Year 6 children develop leadership skills and empathy as they take on a supportive role. The program strengthens the school’s community spirit, fostering a culture of care and inclusion. Pupils also improve their communication skills through meaningful interactions, and the friendships formed during these activities contribute to an enriching school experience for both year groups.
