Autumn 1 - All About Me!

This half term, our topic will be 'All about me'. During our topic, we will be talking about the lives of the people around us, showing an interest in different occupations, developing positive attitudes about the difference between people, learning about the different parts of the human body and how humans grow and change over time and drawing our own self-portraits using mirrors and a range of different drawing techniques.

Literacy - Talk for Writing

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Our talk for writing text this half term is ‘We're Going on a Bear Hunt'.

During our Talk for Writing session, we will be using pictures to tell and sequence familiar stories, learning how to copy our names, begin to learn and copy sounds using our phonics and write cvc words using the new sounds we have learnt.

Maths

In Maths, we will be looking at matching pictures and objects, identifying sets, sorting objects to a type, exploring sorting techniques, creating sorting rules and comparing amounts. At the end of the half term we will move onto comparing size, mass and capacity, as well as exploring, copying, continuing and creating simple patterns.

Key Knowledge

Here is the key knowledge that the children will be learning this half term in the provision and class sessions:

EYFS - PSHE

People can feel different emotions, such as happy, sad, worried, angry or calm.
Adults can help them in feeling calmer when they are upset, worried or angry.
It is okay to feel cross or upset but it is not okay to hurt others.

EYFS - Understanding of the World

Science

Know different parts of the human body.
Animals and humans grow and change over time.
Animals have different features.

History

Different events happened to different people in their lives.
Events happen in an order

Geography

Places can be compared by weather, how they get to school, what they eat, where they live etc.
I can see/hear/feel.. (Talk about buildings, plants, wildlife and weather)

To know and describe special events for family and friends.
To know that people from different countries may practise different or similar religions.

Expressive Arts and Design

Art

To know that different parts of the body are different shapes.
To know features of their own face.

To know there are a range of different materials that can be used to make a model and that they are all slightly different.
Make simple suggestions to fix their junk model.

Some statements will be repeated later in the year to consolidate and embed their learning, using the knowledge in different contexts.

Home Learning

We believe that parents and schools should work in partnership to provide children with the best possible chance to achieve their potential. We will be posting 'wow' moments on Tapestry to share some of their learning with you and we would encourage you to share their learning from home, on Tapestry, too.

Please try to...

Read with your child everyday at home, or share a story together to ensure your child is being exposed to reading frequently. School books are expected to be brought to school each day
Try the suggested maths, topic or literacy related activities suggested in the weekly memo on Tapestry
Practise the handwriting sheets sent home weekly
Practise the KIRFs (Key Instant recall Facts) sent home half termly

Reminders

Please could you ensure your child brings in a water bottle to school everyday so that they stay hydrated.

Book bags should be brought in everyday. Our library day will be on a Wednesday. We will not be able to issue your child a new book from the library until they have returned their previous one.

PE kits should be brought into school on a Monday and go home on a Friday. Our usual PE day will be on a Wednesday.

Please bring in waterproofs and wellies to school so that we can use the forest area and wild garden area frequently. These can be left at school throughout the term.

During periods of hot weather please provide your child with a sun hat and apply suncream before coming to school. If you would like more suncream to be applied at lunchtime please provide a named bottle of suncream.
