Spring 2 - Let's Grow!
This half term, our topic will be ‘Let’s Grow’. During this half term, we will be learning about living things, their habitats, how animals and plants grow and change.
Some of the key things we are learning about are:
Living things and their habitats, animals, plants, seasons
Understanding that living things grow and change over time
Discussing their local environment
Difference between different locations

Jack and the Beanstalk
Jack and the Beanstalk
Our talk for writing text this half term is ‘Jack and the Beanstalk'.
During our Talk for Writing session, we will be sequencing and using pictures to tell the story. We will learn to retell our story using actions and with the support of our class story map. Finally, we will create our own stories using our phonics to write sentences.
Maths
In Maths, we will be covering the following units; Length, height and time, building 9 and 10, and exploring 3D shapes. This will include comparing and measuring the height and length of different objects, learning about minutes and seconds and what we can do in certain amounts of time, subitising, representing, composition, doubling, combining groups and conceptual subitising with numbers 9-10, and learning the names and properties of 3D shapes.

Art
To know that printing creates the same image again.
Know the names of some minibeasts. Eg. ladybird, bee, butterfly, ant, snail
To know that natural objects can be used to make models
Clay and playdough can be pinched, rolled, pushed, pulled and used to create a model.
DT
Eggs are a symbol of Easter.
Science
Plants
Some plants have leaves, stems, flowers and roots.
Its starts as a seed or bulb
It is watered and needs sunlight
It grows and changes
It dies
Animals
It is born as an egg or a live baby
It grows and changes appearance
It can do different things as it gets older
Its dies
To know that animals have different features and what these are.
History
Events happen in an order
Some things happened before they were born.
Begin to comment on images of familiar situations from the past.
Geography
Places can be compared by weather, how they get to school, what they eat, where they live etc.
I can see/hear/feel.. (Talk about buildings, plants, wildlife and weather)
PSHE
To know that it is important to help, listen and support others when working as a team.
To know that it is important to tell the truth.
RE
To know and describe special events for family and friends.
To know that people from different countries may practice different or similar religions.
To know that Christians celebrate Easter.
Some statements will be repeated later in the year to consolidate and embed their learning, using the knowledge in different contexts.

Read with your child everyday at home, or share a story together to ensure your child is being exposed to reading frequently. School books are expected to be brought to school each day

Reminders
Please could you ensure your child brings in a water bottle to school everyday so that they stay hydrated.
Book bags should be brought in everyday. Our library day will be on a Wednesday. We will not be able to issue your child a new book from the library until they have returned their previous one.
PE kits should be brought into school on a Monday and go home on a Friday. Our usual PE day will be on a Wednesday.
Please bring in waterproofs and wellies to school so that we can use the forest area and wild garden area frequently. These can be left at school throughout the term.
During periods of hot weather please provide your child with a sun hat and apply suncream before coming to school. If you would like more suncream to be applied at lunchtime please provide a named bottle of suncream.
