Welcome to the second part of the Spring Term at Little Cherries preschool.
This half term, our topic will be
‘Let’s Grow’
We will be learning about living things and their habitats and how animals and plants grow and change. The children will experience the Butterfly Garden school kit, where they will observe the life cycle of caterpillars to butterflies.
Some of the key things we will be learning about are:
New life and growth
Exploring and commenting on different experiences in nature
Discussing their local environment
Difference between different locations
In Art, we will be experimenting with mono prints. The children will use a range of different objects to make a print.
In English, this half term our key text is ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ During our circle times, we will spend time reading, recalling and extending thinking around key themes in the story.
In Maths, we will be looking at:
The Number 6,
Introducing a 10 frame,
Looking at height & length,
Tall and short,
Long and short,
Tall/long and short
In Communication Language and Literacy:
We will be listening to stories, supporting understanding what is happening, with the help of pictures.
Begin to engage in non-fiction texts.
Support understanding of simple questions about who, what, and where?
Please continue to borrow books from preschool to share with your child.
Read Write Inc: Please look at set 1 sounds located in the virtual classroom on our website. We will be introducing Set 1 through continuous provision and a letter of the week.
Our curriculum is flexible and enables us to adapt and respond to the children’s interests and needs throughout the year. This term, our priority is also to support communication and personal social and emotional development within the preschool. We will continue to support children to understand routines, develop self awareness and confidence, and to develop positive relationships with their peer group.
English

Maths
In preschool, mathematical learning takes place through child initiated play, by exploring size, number, shape, patterns and solving problems.
We also develop our mathematical skills through stories, songs and rhymes .
In addition we deliver a Maths Mastery curriculum to enable children to develop key skills in mathematical concepts.
Communication, Language and Literacy

Group stories & songs at Circle Time
Opportunities to share books with an adult or look at books independently throughout the day in our Book Corner
Visits to the school library
Mark making and writing opportunities throughout the environment
Lots of opportunities for talking and listening to each other throughout play, supported and extended by the teachers and teaching assistants.
Supporting learning at home
Partnership between home and preschool is extremely beneficial to your children's development. We will share photos with you on Tapestry and we would love you to share your child's learning and experiences from home on Tapestry as well.

Reminders
Please name everything! Bags, coats, jumpers, lunchbox, water bottle.
Please provide a water bottle for your child every day. They are offered a snack of fruit/vegetables and a drink of milk or water.
Please provide waterproofs and wellies for your child so that we can use the outdoor area whatever the weather.
The children will have a P.E. session on a Monday morning and on Wednesday afternoons.
No P.E. kit is required. Please make sure your child is wearing trainers and comfortable clothing such as joggers or leggings.
They will also have ongoing opportunities for physical development both indoors and outdoors throughout the week.
