At Bewick Bridge, we believe that cultural diversity enriches our school community and benefits the new children who join us each year.
We warmly welcome and encourage all children and their parents to share their unique cultural and linguistic heritage, as well as their educational experiences.
International Work from the Start
From their first days at Bewick Bridge, pupils are part of a global learning journey.
International work takes place regularly throughout the school year in every class.
Children showcase their cultures and languages during show-and-tell sessions and short presentations.
We also welcome parent visitors and community members who join us for events such as International Mother Tongue Day and the International Food Evening — wonderful celebrations of global traditions, languages, and food.
International Partnerships
Bewick Bridge’s international work includes collaboration with three partner schools located in India, the Czech Republic, and Italy.
Through the British Council Schools Connect programme, we worked with a school in India, for which we were proud to receive an award recognising the success of our collaboration. We are going to develop our collaboration further by working on new, STEM related projects.
International Work Across School Subjects
International learning runs through our whole curriculum.
Over the past two years, KS2 pupils have been directly involved with the international partners through online meetings and joint projects covering a wide range of topics — building friendships, confidence, and a deeper understanding of global learning.
Our Early Years and KS1 pupils also take part in international activities that celebrate different cultures, languages, and global events. These projects are often linked to school subjects such as STEM, geography, music, and computing, helping pupils make cross-curricular connections while exploring the wider world.
Staff and Community
Several members of our staff speak English as an additional language, and they take pride in sharing their languages and cultures through Language Taster Sessions held throughout the year.
During these sessions, pupils learn about different languages, traditions, and the countries our staff come from — inspiring curiosity and respect for cultural diversity.
English Classes for Parents and Community Members
We are also committed to supporting our wider community. Every Tuesday morning, we offer free English lessons for parents and community members with English as an Additional Language (EAL).
These sessions support inclusion, confidence, and communication within our diverse school community.
Home Learning Projects
Bewick Bridge pupils regularly take part in long-term home learning projects related to languages and cultures around the world.
Examples include:
Creating a poster on the theme of Multilingual Bewick Bridge
Exploring folk music and artists from different countries
Developing a presentation about a language and culture they know
These projects encourage curiosity, creativity, and pride in our shared global identity.
