Pupil Premium and Recovery Premium

WHAT IS PUPIL PREMIUM?

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to enhance the provision for pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6 FSM’) Schools also receive funding for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and children of service personnel. 

This additional funding is given to schools so that the school can support disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers. The funding allocation for the 2023-2024 academic year is as follows:

£1,455 per pupil of primary-school age

£2,530 per pupil for looked-after children who or previously looked after children:

• Have been looked after for 1 day or more

• Are adopted

• Leave care under a Special Guardianship Order or a Residence Order 

£355 per pupil from a service family.

The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

The most important part of our Pupil Premium Strategy is to get the basics in place: improve attendance; improve behaviour; and get the right curriculum in place, with high expectations for all in order to raise attainment in maths and English. Please see our Pupil Premium Strategy below.
