The Nest

Welcome to The Nest

What is The Nest?

The Nest is our Nurture Group which is a small class of up to 12 pupils. Children are supported in this group to raise their emotional well being, self esteem and have a sense of belonging to the school community. We provide a structured routine with clear boundaries so the children feel safe and secure. The Nurture Group is very much a place of learning.

We follow the six principles of the Nurture Network

  1. Children’s learning is understood developmentally

  2. The classroom/school offers a safe base

  3. Nurture is important for the development of self esteem

  4. Language is understood as a vital means of communication

  5. All behaviour is communication

  6. Transitions are significant in the lives of children

Children will have the opportunity to:

  • Talk about their feelings

  • Work on curriculum based activities from their classroom such as phonics, maths and reading

  • Experience and practice the development of positive relationships

A Morning in The Nest

Carpet Time

First, we have carpet time and talk about what we are going to do in our session.

Snack

Then, we wash our hands and enjoy a snack, a piece of toast or fruit.

Board Game

Then, it's time to choose a board game, this helps us to build our team work skills as well as using our learning to help us get around the board.

Learning Activities

Next it is time to complete our learning activity. We sing songs and complete tasks in our learning books.

Sensory Trays and Choosing

When we complete our learning activity we get to do our sensory trays. These change each day so it is always fun! Once we have completed our tray we get to choose an activity of our choice.

Tidy Up Time

Before our lunch we must tidy away ready to have a story!

Story Time

Finally, we finish with a story and talk about how we have done in our session and what we are looking forward to about the rest of the day.

What have we been up to in The Nest this term?

Outdoor Learning

The weather has been much nicer in the last couple of weeks and we have really enjoyed getting outside. We have played football, had a go at some of the gym equipment and also had some mini running races!

It has been so lovely to enjoy the sun!

Math Learning

Maths has been really fun! We have been learning about how to use number lines, bead strings, pictoral representations and counting equipment with numbers up to 50. We have written our own equations and created our own maths stories!

Learning about Easter

We have spent lots of time learning about Easter and the reason Easter is celebrated. We looked at some videos about the Christian teaching and we listened to stories that had a spring theme or were set at Easter.

We enjoyed learning about all the different things that happen around this time of year and how Easter and spring both represent new life. We planted some seeds and got to see some chicks!

When we had done our research we did some craft activities and games to give us an opportunity to discuss what we had learnt.

Everyday we play a game or do a sharing activity with our friends. Look at all the fun we have!
