Welcome to the new year at Little Cherries Preschool.

This half term, we will be embarking on the topic

 ‘To Infinity and Beyond’

where we will learn about transport and travel, measuring, and space!

Some of the key things we will be learning about are:

In Art, we will be making rocket models. We will learn that a rocket is a type of vehicle and explore the different shapes that form different parts of a rocket. We will also learn that we can use objects to make creations.

In DT, we will be looking at mechanical systems: exploring moving toys and making a simple wind catcher.

In English, this half term our key text is ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ During our circle times we will spend time reading, recalling and extending thinking around key themes in the story.

Read Write Inc:   Please look at set 1 sounds located in the virtual classroom on our website. We will be introducing Set 1 through continuous provision and a letter of the week.

In Maths, we will be looking at:

Our curriculum is flexible and enables us to adapt and respond to the children’s interests and needs throughout the year.  This term, our priority is also to support communication and personal social and emotional development within the preschool. We will continue to support children to understand routines, develop self awareness and confidence, and to develop positive relationships with their peer group.

Maths

In preschool, mathematical learning takes place through child initiated play, by exploring size, number, shape, patterns and solving problems.

We also develop our mathematical skills through stories, songs and rhymes .

In addition we deliver a Maths Mastery curriculum to enable children to develop key skills in mathematical concepts.
