This half term, we will be embracing the topic
‘Let’s Celebrate’
We will explore day and night, seasonal change and some festivities from around the world
Some of the key things we will be learning about are:
Seasons, understanding the effects of changing seasons on the world around them.
Family and relationships, Knowing they have similarities and differences that connect them to, and distinguish them, from others.
Begin to identify their own feelings and how others may be feeling, e.g. excited, happy, sad.
Creating, using light and dark, colours and patterns.
We will be using the story Who are you? - by Smriti Halls to support your child's learning and Joy to the World - by Kate DePalma & Sophie Fatus
In Communication Language and Literacy:
We will be listening to stories, supporting understanding what is happening, with the help of pictures.
Begin to engage in non-fiction texts.
Support understanding of simple questions about who, what, and where?
Please continue to borrow books from preschool to share with your child.
Read Write Inc: Please look at set 1 sounds located in the virtual classroom on our website. We will be introducing Set 1 through continuous provision and a letter of the week.
In maths, we will be continuing with the ‘Master the Curriculum’ programme of learning; we will learn about:

In PE we will be moving on from our ‘Introduction to PE to extending skills in:
Running, jumping, throwing, catching, rolling & skipping
Social: work safely, co-operation, support others, communication
Emotional: honesty, confidence, perseverance, determination
Thinking: comprehension, make decisions, creativity

Our curriculum is flexible and enables us to adapt and respond to the children’s interests and needs throughout the year.
English
In English, this half term our key text is ‘Who are you? - by Smriti Halls’ and Joy to the World - by Kate DePalma & Sophie Fatus During our circle times we will spend time reading, recalling and extending thinking around key themes in the story.
Maths
In preschool, mathematical learning takes place through child initiated play, by exploring size, number, shape, patterns and solving problems.
We also develop our mathematical skills through stories, songs and rhymes .
In addition we deliver a Maths Mastery curriculum to enable children to develop key skills in mathematical concepts.
Communication, Language and Literacy
These are some of the ways that we develop communication, language and literacy skills in preschool:
Group stories & songs at Circle Time
Opportunities to share books with an adult or look at books independently throughout the day in our Book Corner
Visits to the school library
Mark making and writing opportunities throughout the environment
Lots of opportunities for talking and listening to each other throughout play, supported and extended by the teachers and teaching assistants.
Supporting learning at home
Partnership between home and preschool is extremely beneficial to your children's development. We will share photos with you on Tapestry and we would love you to share your child's learning and experiences from home on Tapestry as well.

Reminders
Please name everything! Bags, coats, jumpers, lunchbox, water bottle.
Please provide a water bottle for your child every day. They are offered a snack of fruit/vegetables and a drink of milk or water.
Please provide waterproofs and wellies for your child so that we can use the outdoor area whatever the weather.
The children will have a P.E. session on a Tuesday morning and on Thursday afternoons.
No P.E. kit is required. Please make sure your child is wearing trainers and comfortable clothing such as joggers or leggings.
They will also have ongoing opportunities for physical development both indoors and outdoors throughout the week.
