Class Teacher: Mrs Dawn
Preschool teaching assistants: Miss Hartley, Miss Finch, & Mrs West
A warm welcome to the new academic year at Little Cherries Preschool.
This half term, we will be embarking on the topic ‘All about me!’
Some of the key things we will be learning about are:
Ourselves, our likes and dislikes
People who are special to us - in our family, our friends and in the community
What makes people special?
Drawing, painting, creating portraits and pictures of people
Places that are important to us, including our homes
We will be using the story Who are you? - by Smriti Halls to support your child's learning.
Our curriculum is flexible and enables us to adapt and respond to the children’s interests and needs throughout the year. As this is our first half term together, we will focus on school routines, emotions and self regulation to ensure everyone settles into school comfortably.
English
In English, this half term our key text is Who are you? - by Smriti Halls . During our circle times we will spend time reading, recalling and extending thinking around key themes in the story.
Maths
In preschool, mathematical learning takes place through child initiated play, by exploring size, number, shape, patterns and solving problems.
We also develop our mathematical skills through stories, songs and rhymes .
In addition we deliver a Maths Mastery curriculum to enable children to develop key skills in mathematical concepts.
Communication, Language and Literacy
These are some of the ways that we develop communication, language and literacy skills in preschool:
Group stories & songs at Circle Time
Opportunities to share books with an adult or look at books independently throughout the day in our Book Corner
Visits to the school library
Mark making and writing opportunities throughout the environment
Lots of opportunities for talking and listening to each other throughout play, supported and extended by the teachers and teaching assistants.
Supporting learning at home
Partnership between home and preschool is extremely beneficial to your children's development. We will share photos with you on Tapestry and we would love you to share your child's learning and experiences from home on Tapestry as well.
These are some ways you can support your child's learning at home:
Play with your child, take turns, play games
Talk with your child
Read books together
Count, recognise numbers, shapes, patterns
Talk to them about preschool
