Sparrows

Welcome to Year 2!

In school learning

English

In English this half term, we will be writing our own quest stories based on 'The Super Happy Magic Forest' and we will also be looking at Calligrams in our poetry unit.

Maths

In maths, we will continue to develop our understanding of time. We will also be learning about measuring mass, capacity and temperature. Using these skills, and ones previously taught, we will solve a variety of maths problems by putting our learning into context.

Topic

Our topic this term is 'Seasides'. This half term we will be making puppets in DT, create printing pictures based on Kandinsky's artwork and further develop our knowledge of seasides in the past and present.

In science, we will continue to learn about living things and their habitats,  and how we stay healthy.

Home learning

Reading

Every week your child will have a reading task to complete on google classroom. Please ensure you child completes this as it will support your child's understanding of books they have read and help develop their comprehension skills.

Please try and read at home as much as possible with your child and record this at least three times a week in their reading record on google classroom.  We will change our  reading books every Friday unless your child is on RWInc, then it may differ.

Maths

Please ensure your child spends some time each week on TTRS to practice their multiplication skills. I will also every now and again set a Sumdog challenge for them to complete but I will notify you of this on google classroom.  Please let me know if you need reminding of your login details.

Spellings

Every week your child will receive 3-5 personalised spellings for them to practice. These will either be from the KS1 common exception words or words they are misspelling in their work in school.  Our spelling tests will take place every Friday.

News and reminders

PE

This takes place every Wednesday and Friday but please bring kits in on a Monday and keep them in school for the whole week in case we need to change plans.

Water bottles

Please ensure your child brings in a water bottle everyday so they can stay hydrated and focused throughout the day. This should be filled only with water.
